Tasks Time Tracking

Timer, manual time entries, estimate, and actual time verification.

Using the timer and manual time entries, verifying results, and common errors.

Time Tracking

Work time can be recorded in two ways:

  • start the timer when beginning work and stop it upon completion;
  • manually enter the start time, end time, and a note.

Recorded time is displayed in the Task time sheet and summaries. Check the date, time, and duration before saving a manual entry.

Using the Timer

  1. Open the Task card and start the timer.
  2. Select Stop when finished or when pausing work.
  3. If prompted by the system, briefly describe the work performed.
  4. Check the start time, end time, and duration in the time sheet.

In some configurations, starting the timer changes the status of Task to "In Progress." An administrator can also enable the automatic stopping of active timers at the end of the workday.

Manual Time Entry

Use manual entry when work is performed without the timer. Select the date, start and end times, enter a note, and save. The end time must be later than the start time, and the interval must not inadvertently overlap with another of your entries.

Estimate and actual time

The Estimate field indicates the planned duration, while the time table reflects the actual time. The estimate itself does not create a time entry. If Task is billable, the actual time may be used for financial calculations; therefore, check for incomplete or duplicate entries before Invoice.

If you cannot start the timer, verify that you are the team member responsible for team member and have time-tracking permissions. If the duration is incorrect, check the date, time zone, and both interval values.
