Overpayments and their application

An overpayment occurs when a customer pays more than the amount currently allocated to a specific document, or when a transfer is temporarily held as customer credit. It has its own balance and can be used for subsequent Invoices items.

Before creating an overpayment record, verify the customer, amount, currency, date, transaction ID, and payment reference. Check that the transfer is not actually intended for multiple Invoices items. When applying an overpayment, select a document belonging to the same customer and do not exceed its outstanding balance.

Applying a portion of the overpayment reduces the remaining balance. Reversing the application restores the balance and increases the Invoices debt again. Perform this action only after consulting the accounting department.

An administrator can enable automatic overpayment application. In this case, the organization must clearly agree on the document selection procedure and regularly verify that the credit has been allocated correctly.
