Connecting Hanna CRM to ChatGPT
Create and install a custom Hanna MCP plugin, authorise it through OAuth, and complete the first ChatGPT test.
Last updated 12 days ago
Add Hanna CRM as a custom MCP plugin to let ChatGPT search and read CRM data and, when your permissions allow it, create or update records. The connection uses OAuth, so you do not copy an API key into ChatGPT.
Before you begin
You need:
- a ChatGPT account that displays Plugins and allows a custom MCP server to be added;
- permission to create a personal or workspace plugin;
- an active Hanna user account with API and MCP access;
- Hanna module and action permissions required for your work;
- ChatGPT on the web.
Availability depends on your plan, workspace policy, user role, and OpenAI rollout. If Add custom MCP server is unavailable, contact your ChatGPT workspace administrator first. Hanna Customer Support cannot enable a ChatGPT plan or workspace feature.
Connection details
Use these values when creating the plugin:
- Name:
Hanna CRM - Description:
Connect to Hanna CRM to search, read and manage CRM data. - Connection:
Server URL - Server URL:
https://mcp.hannacrm.app/mcp - Authentication:
OAuth
Use the exact HTTPS address. Do not enter your Hanna account URL, an API key, or user credentials in this field.
Create the Hanna CRM plugin
- Open Plugins in ChatGPT on the web.
- Select +, then Add custom MCP server. In earlier or gradually updated interfaces, the equivalent menus may be labelled Apps, Create, or New custom plugin.
- Enter Hanna CRM and the recommended description.
- Under Connection, select Server URL.
- Paste
https://mcp.hannacrm.app/mcp. - Under Authentication, select OAuth.
- Read the risk notice and continue only after confirming that the domain is exactly
mcp.hannacrm.app. - Select Create as a plugin, or the equivalent action shown in your interface.
- Open the new plugin and install it. A draft alone may not be available in a conversation.
Authorise Hanna through OAuth
- Start connecting the Hanna CRM plugin.
- If prompted, enter your Hanna account name. This is the part before
.hannacrm.app, for examplemycompany. - Sign in with your own Hanna user account.
- Review the requested access and approve it only when you recognise ChatGPT and the correct Hanna account.
- Return to ChatGPT and confirm that the plugin appears among your installed plugins.
Each employee should connect with their own Hanna account. Do not use one shared company login: the data and actions available to ChatGPT must match the individual Hanna user's permissions.
Verify the connection
- Start a new Work conversation if that mode is shown in your ChatGPT interface.
- Type
@in the message box and select Hanna CRM. - Send a safe read request, such as
Show my tasks for this week. - Confirm that ChatGPT selected a Hanna tool and returned data appropriate to your Hanna account.
- Test a write action only after the read check, using a clearly identified record and result.
Write actions may require an additional confirmation under ChatGPT's default behaviour. Review the tool name and submitted fields before confirming.
Plans and interface changes
OpenAI is actively developing this area. The current official instructions describe a custom MCP server as a ChatGPT plugin and recommend connecting it through ChatGPT on the web. Hanna OAuth and read and write tools have been verified in a Business workspace. Enterprise or Edu workspaces may apply additional roles, group access, and security policies. A personal plugin may be created in a personal account when that feature is available.
If Plugins or Add custom MCP server is missing, do not treat this as a Hanna error. Check current availability in the official OpenAI documentation or contact your ChatGPT administrator.
If the connection fails
Continue with Troubleshooting the Hanna and ChatGPT Connection. Never send Hanna Customer Support a password, OAuth authorisation code, session cookie, API key, or other secret.
